Mike Henniger comments (2 January 2016): This was printed on a sign while the airframe was on display at the air show: This particular example is one of two which the RAF sent around the world to celebrate the types fiftieth anniversary, and the only airworthy such example in the world, the other now being displayed int he RAF Museum in Hendon, London, UK. WP833 has just returned to flight after a three-year engine rebuild. One of the highest-time Chipmunks still flying apart from its trip aroiund the world, it has in excess of 16,480 hours of flight and over 33,000 landings. Most of its military career was devoted to giving cadets their initial flight experiences, in 30 minute hops. |
