    Constructed as a B-52H-170-BW by Boeing at Wichita, Kansas, USA.

    Circa 1961

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 61-0023.

    10 January 1964

    Involved in an incident.
    Loaned to Boeing to test turbulence effects. On test flight on Jan 10, 1964 the entire vertical fin and rudder were ripped off. Aircraft was able to land safely at Blytheville AFB. Repaired and returned to service. Photo below shows it flying with its vertical stabiliser sheared off. The aircraft was being used as a testbed to identify structural weaknesses in the airframe when the event occurred. The crew, with the assistance of Boeing engineers on the ground, was able to land the aircraft safely.
