    Constructed as a Me-262A-1a.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Luftwaffe with s/n 500491.

    December 1944

    Transferred to Geschwader 3, Jagdgeschwader 7 (IIIJG7) (3rd Squadron/Fighter Wing 7), Brandenburg-Briest, Oranienburg and Parchim.
    Operated with markings: 1+7

    The wing was named Nowotny in honor of 258-victory ace Maj Walter Nowotny who headed Kdo Nowotny, the first jet fighter unit until he was shot down.

    Flown by 49-victory ace Obfw Heinz Arnold who was wingman to Maj Rudolf Sinner.

    Captured at Lechfeld, Germany by Watsons Whizzers of Operation Lusty.

    July 1945

    Ferry flight. Delivered to Cherbourg, France.

    From 19 July 1945 to 31 July 1945

    Transported by ship.
    From Cherbourg, France, to USA on Auxiliary Carrier HMS Reaper.

    1 August 1945

    Transported by ship.
    Barged to Newark Army Air Field, NJ.

    August 1945

    Restored.
    Restored to flying condition.

    28 September 1945

    Ferry flight.
    Flew to Freeman Field, IN with a stop at Pittsburgh, PA.

    Circa September 1945

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n FE-111 and operated with these markings: FE-111.
    Assigned USAAF Foreign Equipment number FE-111.

    From 13 October 1945 to 21 October 1945

    Displayed at the Army Air Forces Fair at Wright Field, OH before returning to Freeman Field.

    October 1945

    Began flight tests. At some time during the testing process the standard fighter nose was changed for the reconnaissance nose of its sister ship, FE-4012, a Messerschmitt Me162A-1/U3.

    Ferry flight.
    Ferried to Orchard Place Airport, Park Ridge, IL.

    By 22 July 1946

    Assigned to Orchard Place Airport, Park Ridge, IL for storage.

    To National Air Museum, Washington, DC.

    1950

    Transported by ground. Delivered to National Air Museum Silver Hill, MD, Restoration Facility.

    1966

    To Smithsonian-National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC.
    Aircraft remained at Silver Hill.

    From 1978 to By 1985

    Restored.
    Markings Applied: Yellow 7
    Restored including restoration of the fighter nose. After 6,077 man hours, the aircraft appeared as it did when it served the famous Jagdgeschwader 7, complete with unit insignia and victory markings, which show forty-two victories over Russian aircraft and seven over the United States.

    By 1985

    Placed on display.
