    Constructed as a XS-2.

    Circa 1946

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 46-0674.

    Transferred to NACA High-Speed Flight Research Station, Edwards AFB, CA.

    1948

    Redesignated as X-2.

    27 June 1952

    The first unpowered glide flight of an X-2 took place at Edwards AFB.

    18 November 1955

    The first powered flight.

    Crashed.
    Lost after completing the first ever Mach 3 flight when Captain Milburn Apt lost control and crashed 20 mi E of Edwards AFB. Captain Apt perished.
