    Event

    1944

    Constructed as a Mosquito PR.XVI.
    At Hatfield, UK

Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Air Force with s/n NS631.

Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Australian Air Force with s/n NS631.

    13 December 1944

Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Australian Air Force with s/n A52-600 and operated with these markings: SU-A.

    16 July 1947

Transferred to Air and Ground Radio School, Ballarat, Victoria,.
    For Instructional Purposes.

    Ferry flight.
The ferry flight to Ballarat completed A52-600s flying life, during which it had flown 321 hours and 50 minutes.

    25 November 1954

Struck off Strength/Charge from the Royal Australian Air Force.

    To Mr. E. Vollaire, Mildura.

The intention was to use the aircraft as a wind machine mounted on a turntable, its idling engines blowing air through the fruit trees in order to avoid frost damage on cold nights. Due to difficulties in transporting the aircraft, Mr. Vollaire cut off the wings either side of the fuselage and severed the tail section by cutting through the rear fuselage. The plan to use A52-600 as a wind machine was not proceeded with and the airframe was left dismantled amongst the fruit trees, the fuselage being used as a play house by his children.

    December 1966

To Pearce Dunn/The Warbirds Aviation Museum.

    December 1966

    Photographer: Geoff Goodall
Notes: British-built DH Mosquito PR. Mk.16 A52-600 was found laying in a fruit orchard at Monak NSW in December 1966. It had been an instructional airframe at RAAF Ballarat until put up for disposal and acquired for Au50 by the property owner. Re-assembly proved too big a job and it was left where it was unloaded. The SU-A code comes from its days withthe RAAF Survey Flight. The Mosquito was saved by Pearce Dunn for his Warbirds Aviation Museum at nearby Mildura
