    Constructed as an Alpha.
    Aircraft rollout

    Circa November 1930

    To Colonel C. M. Young with new c/r NS-1.
    Young was the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Aeronautics, using the plane to check airways and facilities.

    16 April 1931

    To Ford Motor Company, Detroit, MI with new c/r NC11Y.

    To National Air Transport keeping c/r NC11Y.

    1932

    Converted to an Alpha 4A.
    Conversion made by Stearman Aircraft of Wichita, KS.

    To Transcontinental and Western Air, Inc keeping c/r NC11Y.

    26 April 1935

    To Frederick B. Lee, NY with new c/r NR11Y.

    Mr. Lee outfitted the plane with floats for a projected round-the-world flight; the project was not completed, but the aircraft did fly the Eastern seaboard with the floats. It was converted back to a land plane before he sold it.

    August 1937

    To Harry Spaulding, NY with new c/r NC11Y.

    December 1937

    To Richard E. Conley, Ridgefield, CT keeping c/r NC11Y.

    Aircraft passed through many hands until purchased by Mr. Hannaford.

    May 1946

    To Foster Hannaford, Jr, Winnetka, IL keeping c/r NC11Y.

    Mr. Hannaford hoped to restore the aircraft to flying condition, and searched for Alpha parts all over the USA. He was unable to restore the aircraft before he died in 1971. The plane was willed to the Experimental Aircraft Association.

    1971

    To Experimental Aircraft Association, Hales Corners, WI.
    Aircraft stored in barn in Burlington, WI.

    From Circa 1974 to 1976

    Restored.
    The National Air and Space Museum learned of the Alphas existence and negotiated with the EAA and Trans World Airlines for its restoration. TWA undertook the project.

    1975

    To Trans World Airlines, New York City, NY.

    9 February 1976

    Assigned civil registration: N11Y

    24 March 1976

    Civil registration, N11Y, cancelled.

    1976

    To Smithsonian-National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC.

    Notes: The only Northrop Alpha left in existence, on display in the National Air and Space Museum in the markings it carried when operated by TWA as a mail plane.
