    Bryan Cobb comments (26 May 2019): Before and After 6 July 1982 - Aircraft owned and restored by Jimmy Stiles Aircraft Restoration, KVPC Cartersville, GA Engine experienced a failed oil pump and although it landed without incident, the engine required rebuild in Avon Park, FL. I was the the sign painter who lettered this aircraft when Jimmy got the paint finished. Most medium size and less were vinyl decals. Large lettering and graphics are hand-painted. Stars and bars and bureau numbers and NAVY on wings were a vinyl spray-mask.

    Crashed.
    There was one minor injury. The accident occurred at the Dixon Municipal Airport (C73) Dixon, IL, United States while taking off. The damage was substantial. Reportedly, the pilot made a touch--go landing while following an snj aircraft. He stated that during the takeoff, the aircraft had accelerated to 85 mph when he lowered the tail slightly the aircraft lifted off normally. He reported that the aircraft was approximately 4 to 5 feet off the runway when it started to roll to the right...

    Crashed.
    There was one minor injury. The accident occurred at the Stead Airport (4SD) Reno, NV, United States while maneuvering. The damage was substantial. The aircraft was flying the reno air race course during trials. The aircraft was on the race course and seemed to enter a turn at one of the pylons at a lower than normal altitude. The left wing contacted the ground. The pilot was able to recover the aircraft to level flight and made a left base entry to runway 18...

    Bryan Cobb comments (26 May 2019): During landing at crowded arrival to SUN-N-FUN Fly-In, Lakeland, FL.Pilot of Jimmy Stiles airplane lost directional control and had a minor ground-loop incident that included a prop-strike.

    Transported by ground.
    Bryan Cobb comments (26 May 2019): Wings were removed and aircraft was transported to Cartersville, GA.

    Repaired.
    Bryan Cobb comments (26 May 2019): In Cartersville it was repaired. Prop was overhauled, and engine received a sudden stoppage inspection at Avon Park, FL.

    From 11 September 2000 to 17 September 2000

    Raced as #49, named Smokin Sue.
    Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the T-6 class. The primary pilot was John Johnson from Palmer, AK. Qualified in 22nd place with an average speed of 195.403 mph. Raced in the Make-Up race. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 190.643 mph.
