    To the Martin Modification Center, Omaha, NE, for Code Silverplate conversion for the carriage of atomic weapons. Converted to Silverplate Victor number 82.

    Circa July 1945

    Base of operations changed.
    North Field on Tinian, Northern Mariana Islands.

    Markings Applied: Enola Gay, 82

    24 July 1945

    Dropped pumpkin bombs on industrial targets at Kobe, Japan.

    26 July 1945

    Dropped pumpkin bombs on industrial targets at Nagoya, Japan.

    6 August 1945

    Dropped Little Boy atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

    From 6 November 1945 to 8 November 1945

    Ferry flight. Delivered to Roswell Army Air Field, NM.
    Flown from Tinian.

    From Circa June 1946 to 2 July 1946

    Flown to Kwajalein as part of Operation Crossroads nuclear tests in the Pacific but not used, returning 2Jul46 to Fairfield-Suisun AAF, CA.

    24 July 1946

    Ferry flight. Delivered to Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.
    For storage.

    30 August 1946

    Title to the aircraft was transferred to the Smithsonian Institution.

    18 September 1947

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 44-86292.

    3 July 1949

    Ferry flight. Delivered to Orchard Place Air Field, Park Ridge, IL.
    For acceptance by the Smithsonian, placed in storage.

    12 January 1952

    Ferry flight. Delivered to Pyote AFB, TX.
    Placed in storage.

    January 1952

    To Smithsonian-National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC.
    Ownership transferred, but not physically relocated.

    Ferry flight. Delivered to Andrews AFB, MD.

    Smithsonian staff began dismantling the aircraft.

    Transported by ground.
    Delivered to the Smithsonian, Air and Space Museum Paul Garber Facility at Silver Hill, Maryland, and stored dismantled.

    The forward fuselage was displayed at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum for the 50th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. The remainder remained in storage at Silver Hill.
