    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 56-0733.

    Restored.
    Assembled from the components of several donar F-104s by the Red Baron Flying Service.

    To Darryl G. Greenamyer, Mission Hills, CA with new c/r N104RB {1}.

    Involved in an incident.
    Summarized NTSB narrative from report number LAX78FUQ16: There were no fatalities. Incident occurred at 16:15 hours. The airframe was destroyed. This was a local flight from Mojave, CA. The airframe failed in flight while circling in the traffic pattern. There was an unspecified incident while cruising. Report remarks include: Left gear failed to lock dwn for unknown reason. Pilot elected to eject. Aircraft destroyed. Engine J-79. Incident occurred at or near Mojave, CA.

    Notes: A sad picture - all that was left of Darryl Greenamyers Starfighter in 1987. Greenamyer built this Starfighter using pieces obtained from many sources. On October 24th 1977, he set a FAI 3km speed record of 988.26 mph, which still stands. On February 26, 1978, while preparing an assault on the FAI altitude record, he was unable to get the landing gear to lock before landing. As it was dangerous to land in this condition, he was forced to eject and the airplane was destroyed, as shown in this picture.
