    Dates

    Event

    1918

    Constructed as a CL.IV.

Taken on Strength/Charge with the Imperial German Air Service with s/n 4649/18.
Could be a conflict here since 4649/18 is also associated with a Fokker D.VII (OAW). However one being D type and other CL type it is possible that the same serial number sequences were used with different types.

    1919

    To Paul Strahle.
World War I flying ace bought it as surplus together with two other CL.IV planes, couple of CL.IV fuselages, a CLS.I fuselage, several sets of wings, engines and many other spare parts. They were to be used in his newly founded aviation company Luftverkehr Strahle.

    1919

To Luftverkehr Strahle with new c/r D-71.

    1919

By the end of the year these aircraft and spares were confiscated by the Allies. Strahle was not allowed to own them under terms of the Versailles Treaty.

    1920

Strahle bought them back from the reparation commission for ten times of the original purchase price.

Modified for passenger and mail transport. Gunner position was separated from the cockpit and fitted with weather protection fairing with side windows. In this compartment two folding seats were installed.

    3 January 1921

Paul Strahle took off in D-71 for the first regularly scheduled flight from Stuttgart to Konstanz.

    Circa 1922

Work done for the Daimler-Benz Museum. At the architects instructions, the dark brown original painting was replaced by a light blue paint, because it suited the building better!

Placed on display with Car Museum in Langenburg Castle, Germany.
