    Constructed as a SBD-3 by Douglas.

    24 August 1942

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Marine Corps with BuNo 06583.

    August 1942

    Transferred to Marine Scout Bombing Squadron 132 (VMSB-132), HI.

    November 1942

    Base of operations changed.
    Unit assigned to Henderson Field, Guadalcanal but this aircraft did not redeploy to Solomon Islands with rest of squadron, unknown reason; log book suggests it was due to a maintenance issue needing repairs.

    From December 1942 to September 1943

    Served with at least two other USMC units but identities are debated.

    October 1943

    Transferred to Training Command, NAS Glenview, IL.

    30 October 1943

    Crashed.
    Ditched in Lake Michigan during carrier qualifications on USS Wolverine.

    June 1991

    Recovered from Lake Michigan.

    Circa 1995

    To National Museum of Naval Aviation Museum, NAS Pensacola, FL.

    From Circa 1995 to Circa 1999

    Restored.
    Basic restoration for display.

    By 2003

    Based at USS Battleship Alabama Memorial Park, Mobile, AL.

    To National Museum of the Marine Corps.

    From Circa 2005 to 2016

    Restored.

    February 2016

    Placed on display with National Museum of the Marine Corps, Quantico, Triangle, VA.
    Marked as the VMBS-232 aircraft flown by then Major Richard C. Mangrum (later Lieutenant General Mangrum) and his gunner/radio operator Corporal Dennis E. Byrd on 25 August 1942.
