Due to pilot error, the aircraft blew a tire on landing and engaged the barrier at Kadena AB. The pilot was Maj. James W. Mathews. |

Flown as Oak 2 by Capt. Goode on an Iron hand mission against a SAM site along Route Package 4 in North Vietnam. On this mission, Maj. Raymond James Merritt was flying as Oak 1 (F-105D 61-0189) and shot down by flak. Lt. Col. Robinson Risner, flying as Pepper 1 (F-105D 61-0127), was also shot down. Both of these 67th TFS pilots became POWs. Capt. Goode flew RESCAP for both pilots, then flew to Da Nang AB, South Vietnam, when he ran out of fuel. |
