    Constructed as a VZ-9-AV.
    VTOL research aircraft for Army and Air Force.

    May 1959

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 58-7055.

    From 9 June 1959 to 7 October 1959

    Tested in a static hover rig.

    October 1959

    Transferred to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA.
    Wind tunnel tests proved that the aircraft had insufficient control for high speed flight and was aerodynamically unstable.

    April 1960

    USAF evaluations at Ames.

    April 1961

    Testing resumed after modifications.

    17 May 1961

    First flight.
    At Ames Research Center, no higher than 3 feet from ground.

    June 1961

    USAF resumed evaluations.

    December 1961

    Program cancelled.

    From 1961 to 1966

    Assigned to Ames Research Center for storage.

    1966

    Assigned to Nationa Air and Space Museums Garber facility, Silver Hill, MD for storage.

    November 2007

    To National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright Field, Dayton, OH.
