    Constructed as a YAH-56A.
    Seventh prototype

    By July 1968

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army with s/n 66-8832.
    Missile and night vision test vehicle.

    1969

    Redesignated as AH-56A-LO.

    9 August 1972

    AH-56A program cancelled.

    Last AH-56A to fly; after program cancellation the Advanced Mechanical Control System (AMCS) was installed for testing. The testing showed the AMCS removed most of the remaining control problems, improved stability, improved handling, and decreased the pilot workload. With the AMCS, the Cheyenne reached a speed of 215 kt (247 mph, 398 km/h) in level flight and in a dive achieved 245 kt (282 mph, 454 km/h); it also demonstrated improved maneuverability at high speeds.
