The accident occurred at Nixon Fork Mine, AK (United States of America) while landing. Narrative: The converted DC-4 cargo plane carried 3000 gallons of fuel to the Nixon Fork Gold Mine near McGrath, AK. This mine has a 4200 x 100 ft gravel runway (16/34)...

    Crashed.
    The accident occurred at the Nixon Fork Mine Airport (AK40) McGrath, AK, United States while landing. The damage was substantial. The captain was making a VFR landing approach to a remote mining airstrip in a modified Douglas DC-4 airplane at the end of a cross-country nonscheduled cargo flight. The modified airplane had a raised cockpit above the fuselage to accommodate an upward swinging nose door...
