Photos of roadside warbirds and museum collections are most welcome. Photos of aircraft as they are currently displayed are great, but photos of airframes in previous markings, with past owners or during a restoration are fantastic as well. You can help document the history of airframes with photos!

Airframe: de Havilland Canada YL-20, c/n 0470, c/r N5141G
Notes: We were relieved to find out that everyone was OK. The worst injury from this as I recall, was the cadet that took my place in the right seat broke his thumb, the two cadets in the rear of the aircraft got a couple of bumps and bruises when the plane went over on its back. I havent read the NTSB Report yet, but I heard that our pilot lost throttle control for some reason, and was unable to climb back out over Hatcher Pass. I dont know if he was toggling mags to drop enough airspeed to land, or what. but given the problem he was dealing with, I think he did a fantastic job of putting her down in the snow without skis. Hard to believe this was 40 years ago.

Notes: As we approached and circled the site, this was my first experience in just how hard it is to find a downed aircraft. even with it being generally intact and another one parked right next to it. The Dominantly white paint scheme doesnt do much good in the snow.

Notes: After our orientation ride, more cadets had arrived, so I surrendered my seat to another cadet and chose to go up with another CAP senior member in our Cessna 150. While the Beaver was on the mission, and I was up in the 150, we got word from the Palmer airport that the Beaver had mechanical problems and had gone down. After we landed the CAP Cessna 150 in Palmer, AK. My dad phoned his friend who had a Cessna 180, and we took off in the 180 to help search for the Beaver. The next three shots are aerial pictures from the 180 as we approached the downed aircraft. It had already been located, and there was other aircraft that had landed there to help out.

Notes: I was a 13 year old cadet in CAP and was very excited to go on a simulated ELT search in our DeHavilland Beaver. I was in the Right seat in this picture taken by my father as we got ready for our orientation flight before the ELT search.
